What these coin prices mean

Each row on this page shows the actual Australian Dollar amount EasyGold pays today for one whole coin of that type — not per gram, not "indicative", not "subject to refining fees". The number is calculated from the live international gold market converted into AUD, multiplied by the coin's pure gold content, less a small published per-coin margin.

  • One whole coin — multiply by however many you have.
  • Updated every minute while the international gold market is open (roughly 23 hours a day, Monday to Friday Sydney time).
  • Locked to the live market at the moment of evaluation, so your written offer reflects the price you'd see right then, not the price when you posted the parcel.

Why prices differ between coins

Two "one ounce" gold coins won't always sell for the same price. A 1oz Australian Kangaroo and a 1oz South African Krugerrand both contain exactly one troy ounce of pure gold, but:

  • The Kangaroo is .9999 fine (pure 24 carat), so 1 troy ounce of gold weighs ~31.1g and the whole coin weighs ~31.1g.
  • The Krugerrand is .9166 fine (22 carat) — the coin still contains one troy ounce of pure gold, but the alloy makes the whole coin weigh ~33.9g. The gold content (and therefore the price) is identical; only the dealer-side liquidity differs.

Smaller fractional coins (1/2oz, 1/4oz, 1/10oz) carry a slightly higher margin because the per-coin handling cost is fixed — testing and processing a 1/10oz Kangaroo takes the same time as a full ounce.

Coins not on this list

We buy almost any gold coin from anywhere in the world, including Spanish escudos, French 20 Franc Roosters, Russian Chervonets, Swiss Helvetia 20 Franc, Turkish coinage, and historic British/Indian pieces. The 17 coins on this page are just the ones we see most often. If you've got something unusual, post it in with a free Gold Kit and we'll price it from the live market the same way.

What about collector value?

The prices above are based on gold content, not numismatic (collector) value. If you have an uncirculated proof set, an early Sovereign with strong year/mintmark value, or anything in original mint packaging that might command a premium above gold value, get a specialist numismatic appraisal before selling. For everyday bullion coins and worn jewellery-grade coins, gold content is what determines price.
